Three-year-old Amari Harley died by drowning before being found in late October in a drainage hole at Bruce Park, according to the Department of Children and Families.
The new information comes following an investigation by DCF into Harley’s death on Oct. 22, when the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office discovered his body after he went missing during a birthday party that Sunday.
His body was found in a water tank underground. The family believes the boy may have somehow got through a plastic lid that at one time covered the tank. Officials with the city have since replaced those covers.
There are 400 parks in Jacksonville. Bruce Park is one of 76 parks with septic tanks or lift stations for restrooms. Like all systems, each month these tanks are inspected.
Curry has not commented on whether or not the city would face charges if found liable.
