Teen boy dies after being hit while walking to bus stop

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, Fla. -- A teenage boy has died and a teenage girl was injured after they were hit by a pick-up truck while walking to their bus stop Friday morning, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

CCSO said the incident happened on El Dorado Road near CR 214 shortly after 6:30 a.m. when the two teenagers were walking on Ranchette Road.

The female, identified as 17-year-old Elin Cornett, suffered from minor injuries and was transported to the hospital in an ambulance.

The male, identified as Shane Savoy, 18, was initially transported to Shands Gainesville with life-threatening injuries. According to Mary Justino with CCSO, Savoy's family said he passed away Friday afternoon.

According to CCSO, the teens were walking on the edge of the road and the driver failed to see them in time to avoid hitting them.

Cornett was recently featured as a First Coast News Student of the Week.
