Students transported to hospital after bus crash

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fl. -- The Columbia County School Superintendent, Terry Huddleston, tells First Coast News several students were transported to local medical facilities after a bus crash Thursday morning.

Huddleston says the crash happened shortly after 8 a.m. and involved a school bus with students headed to Richardson Middle and Columbia High School. According to the traffic report from Florida Highway Patrol, the bus, driven by Dennis Beedle, 76, failed to stop at a stop sign and entered in to the path of an oncoming vehicle.

The students that were not transported to the hospital boarded another bus to their schools.

Parents were notified and local law enforcement is investigating.

According to the report there were 16 students on the bus at the time, and five of them sustained minor injuries.
