CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- The Clay County School Board wants the State Attorney's Office and the Ethics Commission to investigate actions taken by Superintendent Charlie Van Zant.
During a special meeting Wednesday night they voted 3 to 1 in Favor of an investigation.
Board members say they're concerned about an educational conference called "Dare to Think". It's set for November 4 and 5.
Van Zant co-sponsored the event along with a magazine published by first Vice Chairman of the St. Johns County Republican Party, Bill Korah.
Some board members argued the school district should not be associated with any political parties.
Janice Kerekes says she's afraid that by putting the school district's name on anything associated with the conference could open the district up to a liability.
Some parents called this issue a distraction and said the board needs to get back to the business of educating kids.
