CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) - A search is underway in and around the Great Dismal Swamp for a plane from Florida that didn't reach its Virginia destination.
Virginia State Police say the search was launched Thursday after the plane took off from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for the Hampton Roads Executive Airport in Chesapeake. State police described the aircraft as a Cessna. There was no immediate word on how many people were in the plane.
State police, the Civil Air Patrol, park rangers and rescue personnel searched Thursday on the ground and by boat. Canine teams were also brought in.
Aerial search efforts were suspended Thursday night because of weather conditions. State police are asking anyone who might have seen a small plane in the area of Great Dismal Swamp to call 1-800-582-8350.
