Duval County School Superintendent Nikolai Vitti has floated the idea of the Duval County School Board running Head Start
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Superintendent Nikolai Vitti is nearing his first 100 days on the job, filled with making community contacts, listening and learning.
"I think all and all I've accomplished what I set out to do in 100 day plan," said Vitti from the district office, where he sees himself as the Chief Executive Officer outlining a vision for Duval County Schools.
His next step is implementing the district's strategic plan that sets as goals academic achievement for all students, increasing the graduation rate, employing the best staff and engaging family and community support.
Wednesday night the superintendent and the school board hosted the first of three community meetings to get feedback from the community.
An online survey is also affording everyone a chance to give their ideas on what they like and dislike.

Vitti said his vision is guided by the principle that all decisions must be made with best interest of children.
If there is a weak link in the system, he said it is helping all parents become more involved in their child's education.
"How to navigate the school district, how to build their capacity to be advocates for their children and the last piece to become parent leaders. That's a lot in a nutshell," said Vitti.
The school board after getting parent input plans to vote on the revised strategic plan. That vote could be as early as April.
