LARGO, Fla. (
) -- Early Monday morning, Largo Police say a masked
man attacked 68 year old, Donald McKay, a CVS store employee with a
knife while high on drugs and alcohol.
Police say around midnight, the man -- later identified as
23-year-old Lorenzo Guerrero -- walked into the CVS Pharmacy store, at
4000 East Bay Drive, and stabbed McKay in an "unprovoked ambush-style
attack" who was working just inside the front door.
Lt. Stephen Slaughter of the Largo Police Department says, "The store
clerk is right there seeing him walking in. We believe the knife comes
out at that point. You can see the altercation taking place where you
can see knife thrusts are taking place."
Guerrero left his car in the parking lot and fled on foot. Officers caught up with him a short time later and arrested him.
The employee was rushed to Bayfront Medical Center with multiple non-life threatening stab wounds.
Largo Police say a further investigation revealed Guerrero was on
a dangerous cocktail of cocaine, synthetic drugs, and Four Loko
beverages. He could not provide officers any reason for his actions.
Investigators say Guerrero is also a suspect in a burglary attempt
outside the Fairway Convenient Store, in the 1000 block of Belcher Road,
which took place just before the attack at CVS.
