JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- On Wednesday morning, Shanda Merritt entered a plea of guilty to the murder and kidnapping of 83-year-old Charles Soukup.
Merritt pleads guilty to charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping with a firearm and robbery.

She is scheduled to be sentenced December 21, 2012 and faces life in prison.
Merritt received a life sentence Wednesday morning for the attempted murder of her ex-boyfriend Charles Davis. Merritt had previously pleaded guilty to that charge as well.

Merritt shot Davis right after Soukup's murder, according to a news release from State Attorney Angela Corey's office.
Assistant State Attorney John Guy, who helped prosecute both cases, said, "It is the sincere hope of the State Attorney's Office that Ms. Merritt's life sentence and pleas of guilty today will help heal all of the families affected by her horrific decisions and actions."
