ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. -- After a low public turnout for the auction of a goat the Alachua County Sheriff's Office is now giving away the impounded goat to a good home.

Katheryn Odom, Public Information Officer for the Alachua County Sheriff's Office said a in September a family in Hawthorne found the goat standing in the road in front of their house.

The family attempted to locate the goat's owner, even keeping the goat at their home overnight.

After their search failed to locate the goat's owner, the Alachua County Sheriff's Office impounded the goat.  Odom said deputies trying to locate the goat's owner also were unable to do so.

So the sheriff's office held a public auction of the goat October 20th.

Odom said the sheriff's office was not able to auction off the goat due to low public turnout.

By county ordinance,  Odom said the impounded goat will now be given away to a good home Friday, October 26 at 10 a.m. at the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.  The Sheriff's Office is located at 2621 S.E. Hawthorne Road.

Odom said Rural Services Deputies will vet the recipient of the goat, which Odom said is very friendly and of pet quality, to ensure it goes to a good home.
