JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A jury convicted Donnie Ray Jones of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation Tuesday evening at the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Jacksonville.
Jones, 40, was arrested in 2008 after a mother alerted police that he had molested her child, according to release form State Attorney Angela Corey's office.
The state attorney's office says evidence showed Jones fondled the 11-year-old girl in 2006. The abuse was not discovered until 2008, when the victim told her mother Jones inappropriately touched her.
"This young victim was brave enough to face her abuser in court. Thanks to her testimony, this defendant will not be able to hurt another child," said Assistant State Attorney Joel Cooper.
Jones faces life in prison and will be sentenced the week of December 3.
