LA CROSSE, Wis. -- A morning news anchor for a Wisconsin TV station
turned a personal attack on her weight into a positive, anti-bullying
message.
Jennifer Livingston, an anchor for the CBS affiliate WKBT News 8,
took several minutes Tuesday morning to address a viewer email that
called it a "community responsibility" for her to not be overweight.
Livingston, noting that October is National Anti-Bullying Awareness
Month, called out the viewer's personal attack and encouraged families
to speak out against any form of bullying.
"To all of the children out there who feel lost, who are struggling
with your weight, with the color of your skin, your sexual preference,
your disability, even the acne on your face, listen to me right now,"
Livingston said. "Do not let your self-worth be defined by bullies.
Learn from my experience, that the cruel words of one are nothing
compared to the shouts of many."
