FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A South Florida woman wounded when U.S. Marshals opened fire on a suspect is suing the agency for $10 million.
    
Janira Calderin was struck by bullets five times in her head, left foot and right hand. She was picking up Samir Herrera in Boynton Beach in August 2011 when marshals moved in to arrest Herrera.
    
Herrera was wanted on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and armed robbery. The marshals said they opened fire after Herrera pulled out a gun.
    
Calderin's attorney tells the Sun Sentinel that Calderin didn't know about Herrera's criminal record. He says the shoot-out was "reckless and wholly unwarranted."
    
An attorney for the marshals says a review of Herrera's arrest "disclosed no evidence of negligence or wrongdoing."
