JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Florida's most populous counties are planning to hold 12 hours of early voting a day leading up to the presidential election.
But nearly half the state's counties will not hold the maximum amount of early voting hours, according to a court filing made by the Secretary of State's office.
Florida was asked to provide the information before a Wednesday hearing in federal court.
U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, D-Fla., and others are asking a judge to block a law that reduces early voting days - but not the number of hours counties can hold early voting.
Brown and others contend the law passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature that cut the number of days from 14 to eight discriminates against blacks because they vote early in large percentages.
