TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Florida Climate Institute is expanding.
The joint venture between Florida State University and the University of Florida announced Monday that it was adding the resources of four more of the state's universities.
The institute is adding the University of South Florida, the University of Central Florida, Florida Atlantic University and the private University of Miami.
Their goal is to develop reliable scientific information and new technologies for economic benefits and environmental sustainability in Florida's variable and changing climate.
The universities also are aiming to promote additional cooperation with the private sector to help develop a climate-ready workforce and provide information about climate risks unique to Florida.
