FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- Uniformed interpreters and participants will fill Fort Clinch State Park when it hosts a Spanish-American War event Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16.

The weekend event will commemorate the role Fort Clinch played in the Spanish-American War.

Exhibits displaying the armament and period military equipment along with uniformed interpreters and participants will help set the scene.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, September 15 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, September 16.

The fort is located at 2601 Atlantic Avenue in Fernandina Beach.

In addition to the Spanish-American War commemoration, on Saturday, there a coastal cleanup is taking place.

Fort Clinch has partnered with Keep Nassau Beautiful for the cleanup. The event is part of the International Coastal Cleanup Initiative.

Participants will be given all the supplied they need to clean up the Fort Clinch shoreline.

During the two-hour event, the safety of local wildlife will be ensured as volunteers clean up the beach ecosystem and help keep it healthy.

If you participate in the cleanup, then park admission is free.  Sunscreen and comfortable shoes are recommended.
