Van Halen has had to postpone its upcoming tour of Japan.

Guitarist Eddie Van Halen has undergone emergency surgery to treat a digestive disorder, the band says in a note on its website.

The guitarist, 57, had an emergency procedure to "treat a severe bout of diverticulitis" and is expected to make a "full recovery within four to six months."

Van Halen was scheduled to perform three days in Japan, appearing in Osaka on Nov. 20 and 22, and in Tokyo on Nov. 27.
