JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Four people are under arrest, including a 17-year-old, in connection with a missing 83-year-old man who was last seen at the airport.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Charles R. Soukop rented a Jeep to get from the Jacksonville International Airport to his home in Gainesville Oct. 25.
His wife dropped him off at JIA earlier that evening so he could catch a flight as a standby passenger. He was unable to get a ticket, so he decided to rent a vehicle and drive home.
Soukop was reported missing Tuesday; the sheriff's office suspected foul play from the beginning.
Late Monday night, before Soukop was reported missing, a gunshot victim went to the sheriff's office substation on the Northside and said he had been shot.
The victim, 37-year-old Carl Davis, also said the person who shot him was in a nearby parking lot in a truck. Davis was taken to Shands Jacksonville for treatment.
An officer saw a Jeep backing up in the parking lot, and drove toward it flashing his lights.
The driver, 34-year-old Shandra Nedreia Merritt, sped away and led the officer on a chase, police said.
Stop sticks deflated the tires, and she was arrested several blocks away for fleeing. She told police she fled because she had a suspended driver's license.
She was then charged with aggravated battery for shooting the man identified as her ex-boyfriend, fleeing police and having no driver's license.
A day later, police said they learned the Jeep she was driving was the same one rented Monday night by Soukop.
Following her arrest and questioning, police spoke with 17-year-old Corey Deangelo Harrington, who they said confessed to killing Soukop after carjacking him at the airport.
He led police to the body on Owens Road, not far from the airport, according to JSO. He is charged with carjacking and murder.
Police have not provided many details regarding how Soukop was approached at the airport or a motive for the killing.
Two other people, 18-year-old Kandra Demica Harrington and 51-year-old Rose Marie Daniels, are each charged with felony witness tampering related to the case.
Investigators are not ruling out the possibility of more arrests.
