JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- There are a lot of events going on this weekend here in Jacksonville -- and today began Standing Our Ground Week.
Supporters of Marissa Alexander from all across the nation have arrived in the River City. They're working to bring awareness to her fight for freedom.
Today supporters heard from Alexander's mother.
She read a letter from Marissa Alexander, who is facing a maximum 60 year sentence -- accused of shooting at her estranged husband and his two children.
Steps in front the Duval County Courthouse are expected to be filled with people Monday who say they're standing their ground.
Organizers say over 200 people have registered to converge in the River City, aiming to ignite change and crying out in a movement that continues to garner attention and momentum.
Terry Gilliam with Free Marissa Now, said she's angry, hurt and disappointed over the recent order denying Alexander another Stand Your Ground hearing.
Alexander maintains she was not trying to hit anyone when firing what she calls a warning shot.
Prosecutors argue the bullet hit a wall, not the ceiling-- and her estranged husband or his children could have been killed.
This week's events will include a concert, marches and seminars.
Jury selection in Alexander's new trial, is set to begin December first.
