The only homeless shelter between Daytona Beach and Jacksonville was flooded by Hurricane Matthew and is unusable.
So the entire building will be gutted.
All the furniture, bedding, valuables and kitchen appliances at the St. Francis Shelter in St. Augustine were ruined by at least 4-foot high floodwaters.
The staff is struggling to find motel rooms for the residents until the repairs can be completed.
On Make a Difference Day this weekend, volunteers helped out at the shelter to help out. Two local businesses took on the entire costs of renovating the building.
