Semi driver critical after I-95 crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Florida man is reported to be in critical condition after a semi tractor trailer crash on Jacksonville's south side early Friday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol told First Coast News it happened around 2:30 a.m. at the interchange of Interstate 95 northbound & Old St. Augustine Road.

Stephen Anderson, 54, of Altamonte Springs, Fla. was reportedly driving the semi off Old St. Augustine Rd. and onto the highway when he made contacted with a Honda Civic.

The sedan, driven by a 20-year-old woman from St. Johns, Fla., violated Anderson's right of way by driving into the outside travel lane, according to the FHP.

Anderson swerved off the right side of the road, hit an embankment and flipped his semi onto its right side. Emergency crews rushed him to UF Health in Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries.

The other driver was not seriously hurt, but could face charges. It's not believed alcohol is involved in the collision.

At least three tow trucks were required to upright the semi and have it removed from the scene.

First Coast News observed the semi to be a refrigeration truck carrying produce and other cargo.
