Police searching for gunman after Westside shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police are searching for a gunman who shot a man just before midnight Thursday on the Westside.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the victim was shot in the upper-body while walking along Catoma Street near 110th Street.

Police say a suspect approached the victim and tried to take his backpack. The victim fought back and that's when he was shot.

The victim was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be okay.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office asks that any witnesses to the shooting contact the department's Homicide Unit at 904-630-0500 or First Coast Crimestoppers at (866)-845-TIPS.
