There's a name for it. Coulrophobia - fear of clowns.
There's a bit of that going on in Dublin and Laurens County in recent days. 13WMAZ's Facebook page has been flooded with messages from viewers lately asking us about rumors of "creepy" clowns popping up in public trying to grab people and in traffic frightening drivers causing wrecks.
We talked to Dublin police Chief Tim Chatman Monday morning who said they've had some reports of clown sightings, "but no reports of attempted kidnappings by clowns or clowns scaring people causing car accidents."
Chatman said police have investigated the sightings and they haven't found anything substantial to say it's occurring.
Chatman said following a car accident Friday morning, family members of someone involved said clowns scared the driver causing the wreck. Chatman added that police believe speed and alcohol contributed to that accident.
