Pedestrian killed by 2 cars in Riverside identified

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police identified the pedestrian who was killed after being hit by two vehicles in Riverside August 28 as 59-year-old Armanodo A. Calvo.

The accident happened in the 200 block of Riverside Avenue just before 5 a.m. A white Hyundai SUV was traveling south on Riverside Avenue. The driver had the green light and was trying to make a left turn into YMCA when she hit Calvo, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police say this knocked Calvo into the northbound lanes of traffic. The driver of the SUV stopped and called 911.

At the same, another vehicle heading north on Riverside Ave. also had a green light and did not see Calvo in the road and also hit him. The driver thought she hit a box or an object, not a person, according to JSO.

Authorities say the driver drove to the next intersection to see what was under her vehicle and saw it was a man. The driver had dragged him an entire block.

Calvo was pronounced dead at the scene.

JSO will not charge either driver; they both had green lights.
