A Nassau County parent is taking legal action against the Nassau County School Board to fight zoning issues for a new elementary school.
The new school, Wildlight Elementary School will be located one mile north of the intersection of State Road 200/A1A and William Burgess Boulevard.
The father feels as though this school will be a regional educational benchmark in Nassau County because of the enhanced learning programs, he said in the lawsuit.
The dad wants his 10-year-old daughter, an “A” student who currently attends Yulee Elementary School, to attend Wildlight Elementary School. However, the family does not live in the school district's boundary.
The school district allegedly entered an agreement with developers that the parent believes limits possible attendees of the new school, according to the lawsuit. The parent thinks that the school will be exclusive to Wildlight residents, a newly formed community, and not include the policy of open enrollment, he said in the lawsuit.
The filling is 79 pages long. We are awaiting comment from the Nassau County schools.
Wildlight Elementary School is scheduled to open in the fall of 2017.
