One Spark creator makes green by going green

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One Spark starts this week in downtown.

And saving the environment "in style" is the goal of a Jacksonville designer. Finding new uses for old things lying around in your closet.

That's the idea a Jacksonville woman is pitching at One Spark, the world's only crowdfunding event. .

Manisha Joshi is the owner and designer behind Green Accessories for the Planet.

And since 2004, the wife and mother of two has been recycling people's favorite memories into items they can carry with them.

"I know it's very hard for people to let go of things and I thought, what way we could still hold onto it but they could still use it instead of it collecting dust in the back of their closet," Joshi said.

She stockpiles old shirts, dresses, bed sheets -- even shower curtains -- and fashions them into handbags, beach totes, clutches, scarves and stationary.

"It doesn't matter what piece of paper or what fabric, we can make it into something that's useable," Joshi said.

And because she's recycling leftover materials, she says she's able to cut down on costs -- both monetary and environmental.

Manisha and Green Accessories for the Planet will be featured in the Jax Chamber booth at One Spark.
