One killed, one injured in Main Street Bridge crash

Update: The Main Street Bridge reopened just after 6 p.m. The deceased driver was identified as Jonathan Kirkland Jr. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, according to JSO. Kirkland Jr. was not wearing his seat belt.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One person was killed and another was seriously injured Friday in a crash that shut down the Main Street Bridge for hours.

According to JSO, the crash happened around 4 p.m. and closed all lanes of the bridge.

Police say two SUVs heading in opposite directions collided head-on.

Both of the drivers were identified as adult males.

JSO originally said the bridge would be shut down through kick-off of the 7:30 Jaguars game, but the bridge re-opened around 6 p.m.

Drivers were being asked to use an alternate route. JSO says I-95 northbound traffic heading to the Jaguars preseason game needs to use Emerson and southbound traffic should use Union Street.
