One killed, one injured by electric shock

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- One man was killed and another was seriously injured after being shocked by high transmission power lines while trimming trees Thursday morning.

It happened off of Honey Branch Lane in St. Johns County. Authorities say the homeowner was cutting down a tree when it became tangled in high-voltage power lines. The man was believed to be electrocuted and pronounced dead on the scene, according to investigators.

The deceased victim has been identified as, Chad R. Janes, 42. The second victim, who was identified as Joseph Charles Sheffield, was originally transported to UF Health in Jacksonville, and subsequently moved to UF Health Gainesville, for additional treatment of his injuries.

SJCSO says Janes was using a chain saw to clear branches that had fallen on a power line. A 911 caller said they heard three loud booms and saw a fire behind the home.

A Good Samaritan stopped and tried to help the victim, authorities said. His condition is unknown.
