PALM COAST, FL -- A suspect is killed during a shootout after an attempted home invasion.
A Palm Coast homeowner says he opened fire after an unidentified man came into his home through an unlocked front door.
The homeowner, Sean Adams, says he grabbed a handgun and fired when the man came inside his home.
The intruder turned to run, shot back once at Adams, who then also returned fire.
The intruder tried to run away once again, but collapsed outside the front door. He later died from his wounds.
The Flagler County Sheriff says his office is investigating the possiblity that there may be other suspects involved in this incident.
"We are working to establish what, if any, relationship there may be between the resident and the intruder. We are not treating this as a random act. We don't believe the intruder chose the residence at random," said Sheriff Donald W. Fleming.
The identification of the intruder is being withheld pending notification of his family.
