JACKSONVILLE, FL -- An afternoon out in the yard enjoying the weather was interrupted by gunfire Saturday.

"I knew what those gunshots were as soon as I heard it," says Norm Stewart.

Stewart ran from his yard to the Bank Of America parking lot on Edgeweood Avenue where the sound of two gun shots came from.

There he found a gruesome scene.

A man and a woman both shot in the head. The woman was already dead.

"When I get over there, checked her and there was no pulse, I found a faint pulse on the guy - by that time JSO got there," says Stewart.

"Two victims were found, one was deceased at the scene, one was taken to Shands and is in critical condition," says Sergeant Rick Hike.

Neighbors also say the couple had been arguing at a convenience store across the street.

They then walked over to the bank parking lot where their cars were parked and that's where the shooting happened.

"He was laying across her legs and the gun was underneath him," says Stewart.

Police aren't yet saying who pulled the trigger.

They interviewed witnesses and will talk to the man who was shot, if he recovers.
