JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The Windy Hill community is petitioning the U.S. Post Office to reconsider pulling home mail delivery to nearly 600 homes and businesses because of dog attacks.

On Friday, the neighborhood civic association delivered to the post office petitions with more than 500 signatures.

Earlier this month cluster boxes were installed at several locations making home mail boxes useless.

"We will not stop until our home delivery is restored, " said Robin Kaupas who heads up the Windy Hill Civic Association.

"The postal service job always has been to come rain, snow, sleet whatever. Dogs? Dogs, too."

The postal service says it can document 79 interference cases where dogs got in the way of mail delivery in Windy Hill. In more than a dozen cases dogs attacked mail carriers.

Diana Mulvey accepted the petitions for U.S. Postal Service. When questioned by homeowners what will happen, she said, "This was looked at long and hard. Right now just has to be reviewed by the district."

The Jacksonville City Council recently supported a resolution asking the post office to reconsider it decision dropping home delivery in Windy Hill.
