JACKSONVILLE, FL -- An inmate accusing a Corrections Officer of assaulting him has a little help from surveillance video which recorded the incident.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrested Damen Shevar Cody Wednesday on battery and official misconduct charges.
The assault took place at the Montgomery Correctional Facility last October, according to the affidavit for arrest warrant.
Timothy Deainte Burroughs, 22, claimed Cody grabbed him from behind, choked him and slammed his head into a steel door.
Burroughs also claimed Cody continued to push him and abuse him verbally.
Burroughs told investigators he suffered injuries to his leg, arm and back.
Burroughs said he filed a complaint against Cody.
Court documents indicate a surveillance camera recorded the incident.
The investigating officer with the JSO Integrity Unit wrote in his report the video appears to support Burroughs' claims.
The officer also wrote that Cody's Use of Force report did not match with what the video showed. The officer wrote, Cody "made false statements in an official document."
Cody is currently on voluntary unpaid leave. He is assigned to the Montgomery Correctional Facility. Cody has been with the JSO since May 2001.
