JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The editor of one of the world's leading economic magazines is in Jacksonville to talk about how America is digging its way out of the recession. Zanny Minton Beddoes, editor of The Economist, stopped by our studios after her noon talk at the River Club downtown on November 17.
Minton Beddoes says the Federal Reserve is walking a tightrope when it comes to its exit strategy. "They have been laying out how they will tighten policy when the time comes. The question is will they be able to sufficiently prevent inflation from taking off but not so soon that we push the economy back down again," says Minton Beddoes.
Minton Beddoes says another big concern is that there's no exit strategy for fiscal policy right now and that Congress needs to work on spending cuts and tough tax choices over the next year. She also doesn't see the market retesting its March lows but does consider its level a bit heady now.
Minton Beddoes was brought in by the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville.
