JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Soldiers in Iraq, and now in Afghanistan, can get a break from the War on Terror by playing golf.
It's all possible through The Players and the PGA Tour, which has its headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach.
LTC Kirk Whitson and CPT Jesse White helped design and build the courses overseas. In 2003, White built a course in Mosul, which is in northern Iraq. The PGA Tour got wind of the effort and the partnership began.
The joint effort led to a second course in Kirkuk. A third course, built by LTC Whitson in the summer of 2008, is in Afghanistan. It's called TPC of Sharana.
The two soldiers, based at Fort Campbell in Tennessee, talked about the partnership on Good Morning Jacksonville Wednesday morning.
