JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A rabid raccoon has led to yet another rabies alert for portions of Mandarin.

In September, a rabid cat led to an alert for a section of Mandarin near Interstate 295, San Jose Boulevard and Old St. Augustine Road. That alert is still in effect.

This new alert covers some of the same area.

The northern end of the alert is the Buckman Bridge, and the southern end is Flynn Road at Emperor Drive.

The alert runs from Mandarin Point on the west end to Waverly Dock Road at Lake Mandarin Circle West at the east end.

The Health Department says pet owners need to confine their animals and make certain each animal has a current rabies immunization.

Report stray animals to the city of Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services at 630-2489, and report animal bites to Rabies Control at 253-1280.

This rabies alert, Duval County's fifth this year, runs until Jan. 6.
