JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- She's the highest ranking enlisted sailor at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and works in a man's world, but CMDCM (AW/SW) Evelyn Vonn Banks doesn't mind it at all.

"God prepares you for life's journey," said Command Master Chief Banks. "I grew up with brothers so I'm used to men and I understand them. I'm not intimidated by them. I enjoy their company."

"If you know your craft and you're good at it, it doesn't matter your gender," Banks added.

Banks, commonly referred to as the CMC, is from Memphis, but considers the First Coast as one of her many homes across the United States.

Her daughter, Travasha, lives here with her husband and two daughters, Taylor and Ryan.

Banks lived on the First Coast for several years while stationed at recruiting command between 1994-1997.

Her husband worked for the Navy at Cecil Field at the time.

Banks is in town for a weeklong Navy training convention.

She calls it a privilege to be able to have a platform and lend a shoulder for others to stand on.

"I serve God and country but I'm fueled by family. I know they love me. And that includes my Navy family."
