JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -- Two endangered sea turtles are heading to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center today after being rescued from waters off Maine.
The Kemp's Ridley turtles, which are the most endangered sea turtles in the world, were flown from New England, where they had contracted pneumonia.
They were being kept briefly at the South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Hospital, and are expected to arrive by car in Georgia at 3 p.m. today.
Three turtles arrived Wednesday in South Carolina. A loggerhead will remain there, while the two Kemp Ridleys head to Georgia.
