Players Tickets on Sale, Discounted

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Just as one of the First Coast's premier showcase events wraps up, another is getting ready for fans.

The annual Florida-Georgia football game saw tens of thousands of fans converge on the area, leaving behind millions of dollars in the local economy this weekend.

Tickets for the Players Championship, held May 3-9, 2010, went on sale Sunday, and early birdies will pay considerably less to watch golf birdies.

From now until the end of the year, weeklong grounds tickets, which last year cost $199, will cost $145.

Daily tickets, which began at $75 in 2009, will cost $45.

"We are very excited to offer our fans this incredible value to watch the best players in the world on one of golf's finest stages," says Executive Director Jay Monahan.  "We feel like this offer will allow more of our fans access to one of the best events in all of sports right here in our back yard.

Monahan also points out the effect he hopes the new prices will have on the event's charitable donation.

"The end result will be more tickets sold, which means more money for charitable organizations in our community," he says.

To highlight the importance of charity to the tour, volunteers and past tournament chairmen will be spending the day today personally delivering nearly a quarter of a million dollars to more than two dozen local non-profit organizations.
