JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- While thousands of people partied all over the city this weekend law enforcement was in the crowds too looking for underage drinking. And from Thursday through game day officers and agents made more than 250 underage drinking arrests. "We were on golf carts, on foot, stationary spots checking individuals that were walking by consuming alcohol and asking them for ID," says Captain Elizabeth Ledbetter with the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco. Ledbetter worked with JSO and UNF officers. She says there were more arrests this year than in the past, but they also had a larger team checking ID'S. The operation used more than 25 officers working at the Landing, RV city and the lots all around the stadium. "I absolutely think schools are more aware and the push the University of Florida made to control the sale of alcohol has curbed the violence that has led to fatalities and harm to students," says Ledbetter. It may have once been called largest outdoor cocktail party, but with the schools cooperating and more law enforcement on the streets this year the party was a safe one.
