Local Teacher Arrested for Having Sex with Student

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- Nassau County Sheriff's Office detectives say they have arrested a teacher for having sex with one of his students.

Stephen Turner, a 43-year-old teacher at Fernandina Beach High School, was arrested today and charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor, child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, providing alcohol to a person under 21 years of age and distributing or showing obscene material to a minor.

The minor, a 17-year-old, told detectives she and Mr. Turner had been in a relationship for the past two years.

She said they started having a sexual relationship more than a year ago. Police say during this time, Turner bought the teen
a cell phone, jewelry and was in the process of buying her a ring.

Turner is currently in jail; his bond is set at $260,010.
