ORANGE PARK, FL -- Investigators from the Child Abduction Response Team continued to follow up on tips and leads on the Somer Thompson case today. More than 1,150 calls from citizens nationwide have been received.
Members of the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, FBI, U.S. Marshal's Office and many more are actively vetting each, CCSO Public Information Officer Mary Justino.
"It is undoubtedly a day of somber reflection and prayer in many Clay County households and churches," said Justino.
There are two major community events featuring games, family fun, food and more in the area today to help raise funds for the family:
- One event will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Orange Park Town at Park Avenue and Kingsley Avenue in Orange Park.
- The other event is 1-4 p.m. at Tutor Time at Hodges Boulevard at JTB Boulevard.
There is also a fundraiser pool tournament at Solids and Stripes Billards at 2 p.m. at 175-5 Blanding Blvd. Call 272-7799 for more information.
Interested persons can still contribute to the reward funds through Crime Stoppers or through the Justice Coalition. There is also an account set up at Vystar Credit Union in the name of Somer Thompson to assist her family with expenses.
