ORANGE PARK, FL -- Hundreds of families stood in line for a free child identification card on Saturday morning.

A national project by Safety In Prints, or S.I.P Kids, was at Cadillac Saab of Orange Park. S.I.P Kids travels the country to help protect children and to help families compile vital information on their children.

The identification card includes digital fingerprints and a photo of the child. Kelley Meeks, says she didn't think about getting an I.D. card for her 3-year-old daughter, until she heard about Somer Thompson.

"Just for my assurance if anything was to ever happen, because it hit so close to home. It's scary," she said.

S.I.P Kids recommends parents fill out information on the card, like weight and height, with a pencil and update the information every year.

"Parents can put the card in a frame behind a school photo and every year when a new photo goes into the frame the information can be changed," said Kathy McCombs with S.I.P. Kids.

McCombs says the information on the card is vital to have in case of an emergency.

The free I.D. cards were offered Friday as well, McCombs says almost 300 kids were fingerprinted, which she says is a big turnout.

"Sometimes that many kids don't show up an entire weekend," she said.
