ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -- A suspicious item that resembled a homemade incendiary device was found Sunday morning in Davenport Park in St. Augustine.
It was found by the owner of the carousel in the park, not very far away from his merry-go-round. Police were called, the area secured, and the Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad responded to the scene.
The bomb squad technicians retrieved, secured and disposed of the item that looked like a pipe bomb. The item was later determined not to be an explosive device.
A search of the park was completed and the park reopened.
St. Augustine Police report they are investigating the incident and trying to determine if surveillance video might shed some light on who may have put this item in an area frequented by many children.
