JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The USO and the Patriot Guard gathered at the airport Friday night.
They're all here for Specialist Amie McMillan, returning home from a 15-month tour of duty in Iraq.
"To see their expression when they come off the flight and they see this crowd here to greet them, it's overwhelming, the tears just flow. I always forget to bring the Kleenex," says Cheryl Vandiver of the USO.
McMillan was overwhelmed by the support from strangers.
"My family has never been in the military. I am super proud," says Nancy Wilson, Amie's mom. "It could not have come at a better time, except sooner."
"To be home with my family, getting to celebrate the Fourth of July, what our country is all about, it's wonderful," McMillan told First Coast News' Erich Spivey.
