PALATKA, FL -- Investigators found and destroyed what they call one of the largest meth labs they've seen in a long time.
The Drug and Vice Unit of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and the Street Crimes Unit of the Palatka Police Department have been investigating James Lester Calloway.
When officials got to his house on Blanchette Avenue Wednesday, Calloway was there, and had methamphetamine in his possession. He also had chemicals used to manufacture meth.
As they searched the house, they found a large clandestine lab for making meth, which had to be dismantled by a hazardous waste disposal team.
This is part of a lengthy investigation into what detectives are calling an organized group of manufacturers and distributers of methamphetamine in Putnam County.
Calloway is charged with possession with intent to sell methamphetamine, possession of listed chemicals, and the manufacturing of methamphetamine.
