JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The summer is quickly approaching, and teens across the First Coast are struggling to find part-time jobs.

"It's been really tough; it is not easy," said Letia Stephens.

Stephens just finished her second year at Florida Community College at Jacksonville. She relies on summer jobs to make some extra money for college. Stephens is finding there is some unexpected competition.

"Its been a couple of weeks now and people older than me, old enough to be my parents, are applying for jobs that would be something someone my age would be applying for," Stephens said.

"We are seeing a few more adults apply than normal," Karen Turner said.

Turner is a Manager at Adventure Landing on the Westside. It is a popular place for teens to work during the summer. Turner is used to being flooded with applications in the summer. The adult applicants, though, are a new trend.

With only a few job openings and so many applicants, Turner said the chance of being hired is low.

Stephens understands she is looking for a job in a tough economic time, but that does not mean she is going to stop searching.

"Don't give up, just keep looking, something will come along, just keep hope alive," Stephens said.
