JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A three-year-old child has died in a fire in the Oceanway community of North Jacksonville.
First Coast News has learned the little girl had been left home alone accidentally.
The child's mother and grandmother were both out, and each thought the other had the child.
The smoke was visible from several blocks away, and a woman driving by the home on Grover Rd. saw it and rushed over the see if she could help.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded and found the child, but it was too late to save her.
Two firefighters were taken to the hospital as a precaution for minor injuries.
Counselors were also brought to the scene to help firefighters deal with the tragedy, and the State Fire Marshal is on the scene working to determine what caused the fire.
