ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -- A woman is recovering in the hospital and three others are displaced after an early morning fire at an apartment complex.

Sue Toney was asleep when the fire started at her four-unit complex at Huguenot Harbor, located on the corner of Century Boulevard and Lightsey Road.

It was around 4 a.m. when Toney's smoke alarm woke her.

"And then I heard an explosion and the neighbor next door screaming for help," Toney told First Coast News.

She ran outside and saw smoke pouring out of her next door neighbor's apartment. A few minutes after calling 911, firefighters arrived and put out the flames.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue Spokesperson Jeremy Robshaw says one woman was rushed to Flagler Hospital with minor injuries. He says the fire started in her apartment.

Apartment residents tell First Coast News the woman was on an oxygen tank.

Robshaw says firefighters were able to put out the flames before the fire reached the three other units. However, the apartments sustained substantial smoke and water damage, so the residents cannot stay.

Toney spent Saturday moving out of her apartment. Friends from her congregation helped Toney move.

"Everything turned out very well considering -- nobody was hurt, nobody lost a life -- so it went very well, considering," said Toney, who was able to move into another apartment.

Two of the residents are getting help and shelter from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
