ATLANTIC BEACH, FL -- One First Coast driver is spending the start to his New Year behind bars.

Around 9 o'clock Thursday morning a drunk driver crashed his SUV into the side of a building at the Sea Oats Apartments off Plaza Drive.

Willie Davis said he heard the loud bang from inside his apartment and ran outside to see if the man was okay.

When he got there he noticed the man was drunk and trying to back out and leave the seen.

"I just jumped in the passenger side and pulled the keys out of the ignition and just contained him till the cops got here," said Davis. "Luckily he didn't get a chance to get out to the road because it could have been more fatal to somebody else. Luckily there weren't no kids running around, either."

Davis said the man did not speak english and is not sure if he lived at the complex. He was able to keep him there until the police arrived. Davis also said the driver had more beer inside the SUV.

Davis said the driver was arrested at the complex and was charged with Driving Under the Influence. No one was hurt.
