JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Officials from several law enforcement agencies worked together to find and arrest a woman they say killed her husband in June.
Miriam Helmick is being held in Duval County on $2,000,000 bond after being charged with the murder of her husband in Mesa County, Colorado.
Mesa County Sheriff's Officers, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and U.S. Marshals are not releasing details of how they found Helmick.
On June 10, 2008, police were called to a home in Whitewater, Colorado, to look into a possible robbery. Inside, they found 62-year-old Alan Helmick dead.
"She was not a person that could be eliminated from the very beginning. ... Pretty confident that we've got the person responsible," says Mesa County Sheriff Stan Hilkey.
KJCT, our ABC affiliate in Colorado, reports that Miriam Helmick lived in Jacksonville in 2002.
Six years ago, Miriam's first husband died at the couple's home on Landmark Circle in Jacksonville.
Miriam told police she was alseep next to her husband, Jack Giles, when she heard a loud pop.
The medical examiner's office ruled the death a suicide.
People living nearby did not want to talk on camera, but say nothing happened at the home that made them question that ruling.
