JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Some high school students on the First Coast got a firsthand look at a career in aviation on Thursday.

The students took part in FCCJ's Air Traffic Control Summer Experience. They got the chance to test out new tower and radio simulators.

"The students love it," project coordinator Sam Fischer told First Coast News. "They came in, they've been here for two weeks. And they're sitting down, they're controlling airplanes. It's amazing how simply they learn this stuff."

The renovated facility has the same simulators used in FAA training.

Last year, FCCJ was chosen to be one of 27 college across the nation to have this program.

The air traffic control program will begin this fall.
